Sizzling Shimla

“I just can’t resist mutton biryani. It’s something I’ve loved eating as a child too. Whenever I’m feeling low, I just pep myself with some good biryani”  – Riteish Deshmukh

Shimla Biryani is another popular restaurant now expanding to multiple locations around Kolkata. As the name suggests, it specialists in North Indian cuisine. It is quite popular among biryani lover , location wise this restro easily accessible. What I liked about this restro is its prominent location and prompt service. Staffs are good and attentive. Moreover, it has kept a reasonable pricing. Not a great ambiance, but provides some quality food with Muglai taste. It a mid range eat, specialized for Biryani. This place is very convenient stop for lunch while you are in EM bypass at Kolkata. Just a stop before Ruby crossing it is very popular place for lunch or dinner.
All items are perfectly priced for the quality and quantity. The restaurant is air conditioned.

Take away food is quite popular here. I would recommend for a try at this restaurant if you need some change of food during the weekends.

The Dishes We Had :

Welcome Drinks  :

Mocktail :

Fruit Punch –  One of the most popular welcome drinks served at most parties. The blend of assorted fruit juices with fresh cream balances the flavours, and makes this refreshing drink soothing too. A great big glass of Fruit Punch is such a refreshing summer beverage, making this drink perfectly named! It tastes and looks just like Fruit Punch, but has the pick me up of a Refresher for those sluggish days when you just need something extra.

Litchi Delight –  Enjoy the refreshing taste of summer in Litchi Delight.  One of the juicy, yummy and delicious summer fruit drinks. Made with best Litchis to ensure consistent quality of the juice. IMG_0596

Chef’s Special – A treat of fruit flavours and a vibrant colour, this drink combines the health benefits of pomegranate and cranberry. These lend a nice texture and colour to the drink.IMG_0587

Starter :

Drums of Heaven – A famous deep fried Chinese starter tossed in schezwan sauce. These chicken drums of heaven have a crunchy and crispy feeling as you bite into the soft chicken pieces. Chicken, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, sugar and garlic. Drumsticks are lip smackingly delicious loaded with flavour. Perfectly wrapped in aluminum foil and presented beautifully. IMG_0664

Cheese Kebab – Skewers marinated in cream cheese. These skewers are mouth watering delicious! A smooth creamy mixture of cream cheese and thickened yoghurt, combined with some cilantro offered the perfect marinade for this delectable dish. Served with Pudina chutney. One of my all time favorite kebab. IMG_0617

Shimla Special Kebab – Luscious pieces of meat are barbecued in a charcoal clay oven using a skewer. Exquisitely prepared by marinating in our yoghurt-based sauce, spiced with our own freshly ground massalas with fresh herbs, to encapsulate a specific flavour and natural goodness.

Main course :

Mutton Special Biryani –  Whatever be the truth behind its origin, Mutton Biryani just hugs my stomach in the right way. This non-vegetarian recipe is prepared by marinating mutton in a melange of spices like cumin powder, coriander powder and star anise powder and is assorted with cooked rice. A perfect main dish recipe, this biryani is best served hot with Raita for a tempting dinner, and is a true bliss for non-veg lovers.  A richly aromatic perfect dish – a zesty preparation indeed.IMG_0827

Veg Biryani – A Classic Indian Vegetable Biryani is a perfect dish for any occasion for veg foodies. A traditional mughlai main course item loaded with chopped vegetables, paneer, spices, saffron and dry fruits. It is a gluten-free dish that is loaded with tons of flavor and will take your meal to a whole new level. Thanks to management to provide us a rich, fragrant, delicious, colorful and mouth watering Vegetable Biryani.IMG_0679

Chicken Kasturi – Very tasty and inviting in looks.  This was absolutely gorgeous – seriously tasty and i’d highly recommend it. I’d describe this dish as being medium spicy – it was quite creamy with the taste of cumin coming through with a little spice and a background flavour of cheese – it really was lovely.IMG_0735

Kashmiri Chicken – Like its picturesque beauty, the taste of Kashmir Chicken is heavenly.  A delicious dish brimming with juicy pieces of chicken, whole spices, Kashmiri chillis and desi ghee.  Rich, creamy, spicy, sweet and delicious Kashmiri Chicken.

Masala Kulcha – Masala Kulcha is a delicious Indian recipe served as a Bread stuffed with potatoes, spices and onions. This conventional kulcha made us mouth watering. This is soft and gluten free Masala Kulcha that tastes great.

Tandoori Lachcha – One of the famous bread of India is ‘Lachha Paratha’, soft and flaky with lots of layers. Crisp on the outside with soft interiors.  Lacha Paratha is a treat with any meal and can be served with any gravy base dish. IMG_0692_

Paneer Kofta – This traditional Kofta  is every Paneer lover’s dream come true. Rich cottage cheese dumplings sprinkled with brown and green cardamom, dry fruits is slowly cooked in milk. Koftas  infused with cardamom ginger, bay leaves and balanced out with rich curd proving the dish a soft feel and texture. A standout veg dish in the cluster of non veg primes. IMG_0765

Mutton Rara Masala – Succulent mutton cooked in a rich gravy made with aromatic whole spices. Properly cooked wonderful gravy with soft and tender mutton pieces. Pungent and beautifully fragrant amazing dish was a great. The liberal use of red chillies imparts a dramatic red colour to the curry.

Phirni – A authentic recipe of famous Indian dessert made with milk and rice. Creamy rice pudding flavoured with saffron and cardamom. It is the best way to end a heavy meal here at Shimla Biryani. Super Light and tasty. Pure Bliss !IMG_0858

Nevertheless, it’s for exemplary versions of straightforward North Indian Culinary cooking that the restaurant has gained acclaim. The slightly less formal front section of the restaurant – and the more traditional dining area at first floor.  Food was excellent with good portions. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone in town.  Good food takes time and the price is very reasonable.

The famous Shimla Biriyani will take you on an unforgettable exquisite journey for sure.

I don’t really live in an area famous for restaurants and eateries. I am in the middle of nowhere.
