The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook.
Looking for supper and the ability to sit at a cozy Place, The Route 17 is just the ticket. Haven for meat lovers with prime cuts of the finest meat. If you’re looking for the best steaks in City, this is the place.
I went to dinner with my friends. I liked the look of the restaurant and the feeling of the place. I anticipated a good meal. It was a quiet evening with not many other tables occupied. From start to finish I was extremely impressed by the restaurant. It has a wonderful atmosphere – very different to most Steak House in the city. The tables are large and the seats comfortable. The staff were tremendous, helpful and cheerful throughout. Each dish was beautifully presented and very tasty. The meal was delicious and the presentation was superb. The kitchen staff took great care in the cooking and plating of what is a very memorable dinner. It was the first time to visit this restaurant and will certainly go back, an excellent dining experience.
Don’t overlook this restaurant. First of all the when you enter you walk pass the cooking station on the way to your table, this is where the wonderful smell of Steak fills the air with mouth watering expectations. One more thing about the salad – mushrooms, croutons, onions and authentic real blue cheese dressing. It’s so good! Plus, for the baked potato, they provide sour cream, chopped chives and tasty bacon pieces on the side. Somewhat dimly lit but bright enough to read the menu. The background music with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and others doesn’t overwhelm the conversation. You won’t be disappointed.
Steaks are very rare available in Kolkata so we decided to open this so people of Kolkata can get it’s best steak. We have made sure that the sauces to the meat are cooked perfectly to serve our guests.

The Dishes We Had –
Shepards Pie – Meat minces tossed in Garlic, Onion, Celery, cooked in Concasse and baked in Mashed Potato. Beloved by the British, this is a rich, protein-filled dish. Try this creamy, cheesy Shepherd’s Pie with a delectably flaky crust. Shepherd’s Pie comes to us from England, and is traditionally made with lamb or mutton. Here in India we are more of a lamb eating culture than a beef eating one, and when one is served “shepherd’s pie” here, it is most often made with lamb. When you dig in you get a spoonful of mashed potatoes, some crispy bits, meat, and vegetables all in one bite. It’s pure comfort food.
Au-gratin – Vegetables sauteed in butter , cooked in white sauce baked with cheese. It was a mixed veg one! It is one of the first dishes that comes to mind when one thinks of continental delicacies. Much loved across the world, this French dish is made by baking a mixture of assorted veggies and white sauce, coated with cheese.
It was baked perfectly which was providing a nice brown crust. This gave dish its special texture and cheesy aroma. Enjoy the Baked Vegetable Au Gratin immediately upon serving, with crisply toasted bread.
Chicken Ala Kiev – Breast piece chicken stuffed with butter, mushroom, parsley and dill served with mashed potato and sauteed veg. This chicken Kiev recipe is named after the queen city of Ukraine; Kiev. The first cut into the chicken released a flavorful stream of hot butter which makes the chicken incredibly tender. Role of chicken breasts around butter, eggs, mixed herbs and breadcrumbs and is a perfect snack recipe. Unique in its taste and flavour, this snack is an interesting twist to the traditional chicken recipes. Indulge in this buttery and crispy continental recipe that’ll definitely make your tongue wanting more of it.
Tetrazzini – Shredded chicken cooked in white sauce baked with cheese, on a bed of sauteed pasta with garlic and parsley. It was named for famed Italian opera soprano Luisa Tetrazzini. This chicken tetrazzini is comforting creamy lusciousness; a cheesy pasta bake loaded with juicy chicken that will have your friends refilling their bowls. Good, wholesome food which never goes out of style.
Fish & Chips – Yet for all the newness of oceanic delights, there is one seafood dish that can be found on the menu of most any restaurant with a fryer in the back: the fish & chips. t is a long-standing dish, iconic enough to score it’s own ampersand. These are not two separate food items that happen to share a plate — they are intrinsically linked in a dance of lusty oil and crunchy desires, while a bottle of malt vinegar flirts around the edges. The fish is coated in homemade batter and deep fried to make it really crisp along with mayonnaise-based tartare sauce. It is one of my all-time favorite foods. I can eat insane amounts of it in a ridiculously short amount of time.
Pork Chops – Grilled Pork chop topped with red wine base Hawaiian sauce served with mashed potato, french fries, parsley potato and sauteed veg garnish with sunny side up and roasted pineapple. It is seriously tasty – savoury and sweet with a bit of acidity. Glistening, sticky, golden. These juicy Glazed Pork Chops are sweet, salty, and a little spicy. The sugar glaze helps keep the chops moist and tender! Dry, chewy pork chops are a thing of the past—these thick-cut beauties are everything an excellent grilled pork chop should be.
Tenderloin Steak – Grilled Tenderloin marinated with Olive oil, Garlic Powder, Salt, Black pepper, Parsley Powder, Mustard powder served with mashed Potato and sauteed Veg with Red wine base pepper, mushroom sauce. This steak is cut from the beef tenderloin, part of the short loin primal. It is greatly desired for being the most tender but of beef. It is melt in your mouth and packed with flavor. This was exactly the type of dish I wanted- something simple that would bring out the flavor of the grilled meat.
Goulash – Meat tossed in Garlic, onion, cooked in tomato gravy with English spices and red wine served with dill parsley Butter rice garnish with Saffron. A hearty warming dish. A simple and tasty recipe for a traditional beef goulash. Lots of peppers and paprika make a good bit of braising steak into something special. A great foot stomping feast from Hungary to stop you feeling hungry! This dish is full of flavor and the perfect way to feed a crowd ! A simple skillet dinner with roasted tomatoes, beef and Butter rice creates the perfect comfort food on a budget!
Pot Roast Meat Shanks – Shanks cooked in pot tossed in garlic, onion, leeks, celery cooked in mutton stock. Cheaper cuts of meat including shanks, short ribs, briskets, and chuck roasts contain more connective tissue and saturated fats than their more expensive counterparts like steaks and tenderloins. The perfectly cooked pieces breaks down the connective tissue and renders some of the fat, which leaves us with tend. A sensational classic filled with tons of great Italian flavors and spice.
Route 17 is for me the go to restaurant for pretty much any occasion. This was by far one of my favorite dining experience! Prompt and very helpful service was the first thing I noticed. I have absolutely nothing to say negatively about the experience. Cannot wait to return.
Thanks Prasun Saha and his team for such hospitality and chef for delightful dishes.
