If you are looking for a restaurant that provides what you would expect a South Indian food to be like, then Chennai Express is the place to go. They provide a varieties of South Indian food that is at an affordable price. The interior decoration is well designed as it carries its name and it provides a relaxing ambiance that makes you feel comfortable.
It has everything you want in a trendy yet affordable restaurant. It’s South Indian cuisine is stellar and unlike many of the places you find while wandering around. I am not very fond of vegetable though. No matter what your dietary situation, you will find good options here. Portion size is good. The vibe is perfect.
Black Currant, Khas Banana, Strawberry & Blueberry –
Suddenly wanted to relive those college days, when I’d walk across the street during a class gap to grab a large milkshake. But, it ain’t the same as it was before. they used to spend a min to decorate your shake with the fluffy whip cream and chocolate drizzle and on top of that there would be extra chocolate pieces on top as the “cherry on top”– on every shake.
Malai Paneer Tikka – Flavorful and tasty. Pretty decent amount of spice although if you are into spicy food I definitely would recommend turn the notch up on spice one or two when ordering.
Veg Tandoori Platter – Tandoori Aloo, Hara Bhara Kebab, Tandoori Paneer Tikka, Malai Paneer Tikka – All in one, you can appreciate the various flavors !
Main Course –
Shaam Savera – This so was flavorful but not spicy at all which is fine as it appeals to a wider audience. However, Paneer Chunks blended with Indian spice and wrapped with Sag were very fresh and tender and I felt as if a family member had made dinner for me.
Dal Makhani – Whole black lentils cooked slowly in spices . Lentils can be a hit or miss for me, but I’m glad I gave this one a try. The lentils were soft, and came in a “soup” form. I just loved the texture of the lentils, and the sauce it came with. I would highly recommend this dish.
Pindi Chola – It had just the right flavor and real tasty. This was probably my favorite one.
Paneer Tikka Masala – The paneer tikka masala was creamy and super tasty with the naan! The paneer chunks were tender and the curry perfectly spiced, infused with the flavors of the south of India.
Breads – Masala Kulcha, Butter Naan, Garlic Naan Very flat naan that was more crunchy, instead of chewy.
Veg Biryani – The portion size of this dish is really big! The rice was also flavored very well; I was surprised to see how much I liked the dish considering I usually don’t like veg !
If you’re craving for some authentic South Indian food or Indian vegetarian food, this is a great option. To top it, the people running the show are pleasure to talk to and make you feel welcome and this is a definitely cool spot to try out if you’re near to Bangur Avenue.
